Effective teaching aid and communication toolOct 01, 2005
This is my second soccer dry erase board of this particular style and a highly effective piece of coaching equipment that I personally consider essential for any team.
Verbal descriptions of fundamental shape or positioning will take you so far and only reach a subset of players. For those players who respond better to "visual" instruction this is definitely the way to go -- quick, easy, and to the point.
The large size of this board sets it above the rest, as does the versatility of having a soccer field representation to scale on one side and an open message area on the other.
In practice, I like to describe a concept in words, then pictures, then walk through it slowly before performing at increasing speed. This dry erase board fits perfectly into the format. And it's a great way to quickly take advantage of a "coaching moment" during practice to drive a point home.
While the soccer field side is great for breaking down plays, channels, thirds, player positions and direction, the whiteboard is a wonderful way to communicate a practice schedule, theme, inspirational quote or lineup.
